MASS People working group submitted first document to International Maritime Organization
🎯 Working with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST), and after 2 years of work, MASS People has submitted its first paper entitled ‘Bridging Competency Gaps for MASS Operators in Alignment with the STCW Framework’ for consideration by the International Maritime Organization Intersessional Working Group on Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships [2nd Session] taking place in October 2023.

MASS People was launched in early 2021 with the task of bringing focus to the people behind the technology revolution currently gripping the maritime industry. The working group founded and chaired by Fugro with support from SeaBot XR has brought together multiple national maritime authorities representing the Netherlands (Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat), Norway (Norwegian Coastal Administration – Kystverket, Norwegian Maritime Authority), Belgium (FOD Mobiliteit en Vervoer / SPF Mobilité et Transports), Denmark (Danish Maritime Authority), France (Ministères Écologie Énergie Territoires), New Zealand (Maritime New Zealand), Italy (Italian Coast Guard, Nazionale delle Ricerche) and Poland (Ministerstwo Infrastruktury), to share in the challenge of developing world-class training and competency standards for the workforce of tomorrow.
