Zeabuz and Torghatten to launch autonomous ferry lines in 2023
? Norwegian ferry company Torghatten and the marine autonomy startup Zeabuz (both are members of Ocean Autonomy Cluster) are launching a new ferry line in the middle of Stockholm, Sweden from 2023. The ferry will be electric and self-propelled, and is a first step in exploiting the enormous potential for waterborne mobility both in Stockholm and in other big cities.
? This is crucial for establishing new, ground-breaking mobility in a metropolitan area. We will drive an emission-free, autonomous boat in a part of Stockholm with a large overload on the existing infrastructure. In this way, we contribute to achieving the region’s goals of reduced queues, increased electrification and more people cycling and walking, says Torghatten’s CEO, Stein André Herigstad-Olsen.
? To solve the world’s transport needs and the climate crisis, we must utilize urban waterways for mobility. Autonomous ferries make this possible, in an environmentally and economically sustainable way. Here, Stockholm is perhaps the world’s best case to show how it should be done in practice. It is a bit of a green revolution we are now starting in Stockholm, says CEO of Zeabuz, Erik Dyrkoren.
