The Flemish hydrography receives 3m USV system

The Flemish Hydrography (Maritime Services and Coast Agency – agentschap Maritieme Dienstverlening en Kust (MDK, responsible for hydrographic and hydrometeorological data in Belgium) has put an unmanned vessel into service. The USV was named Nemo and will be used to perform measurements in shallow and hard-to-reach areas, in marinas and on the foreshore along the coast.
The complete system was delivered by GEOxyz in collaboration with dotOcean, which included:
🔹 IM3000 series USV, developed by IM Solutions
🔹 Launch and Recovery System (LARS) trailer
🔹 Mobile Field Office
This also included a two-day training course that was followed by a number of colleagues from the Flemish Hydrography. Initially, the Nemo will be transported by road and either launched via a slipway or attached to a vertical quay wall using a custom-made hoist system from a trailer. This trailer was also fully equipped as an ‘office on location’ with a custom-made space to be able to follow up the measurements. All necessary PC and charging facilities are present to be able to work autonomously for at least a full day. In a second phase, the intention is that the Nemo will be taken on board the mother ship Sirius to be used on days with favourable weather conditions to measure parts of the shallow coastal strip.
The deployment of the USV Nemo therefore opens the door for Belgium Maritime Services and Coast Agency to a safe, future-oriented and green deployment of hydrographic measurements.
